GES Warns SHS Heads Against Illegal WASSCE Registration

Only eligible Form Three students with verified records are allowed to be registered for WASSCE

GES Issues Strong Warning to School Heads

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned Heads of Senior High and Technical Schools against the unauthorised registration of students for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

According to GES, only eligible Form Three students with properly verified academic records from SHS 1 to SHS 3 are allowed to be registered for the examination.

Severe Sanctions Await Offenders

In a statement dated January 8 and signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES, the Service warned that any Head of School who violates the directive will face severe sanctions.

“A Head of School is authorised to register only Form Three students whose academic records and progression from year one to year three are traceable in the school’s database,” the statement said.

GES stressed that the directive must be followed without exception.

Form Two and Private Candidates Banned

The warning follows reports by GES management that some Heads of Schools are illegally registering Form Two students and private candidates for WASSCE.

The Service revealed that these registrations are often done outside approved procedures and, in some cases, in exchange for money.

GES described the practice as a serious threat to the integrity of the examination system.

GES Describes Act as Misconduct

According to GES, any Head or school official who registers candidates whose academic records cannot be traced in the school’s database is engaging in misconduct and abuse of office.

The Service added that collecting money for such unauthorised registrations further worsens the offence.

Compliance Is Mandatory

GES has therefore urged all Heads of Schools and school officials to strictly comply with the directive.

“The breach of this directive will attract severe sanctions in accordance with GES and WAEC regulations, without exception,” the statement concluded.
