British boxing star Anthony Joshua is reportedly considering ending his boxing career after surviving a serious car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.

The tragic incident occurred on December 29, 2025, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, sending shockwaves through Joshua’s family and the global boxing community.

What Happened in the Crash

According to reports, Joshua was travelling in a Lexus SUV with Latif “Latz” Ayodele and Sina Ghamai when the vehicle crashed into a stationary truck.

Joshua and the driver survived the accident, but Ayodele and Ghamai died at the scene.

Family Confirms Joshua’s Private Decision

Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, revealed that the former heavyweight champion has privately decided to retire from boxing following the emotional trauma of the incident.

“The major thing there is that he has retired from boxing. That is one thing that makes us glad because each time he’s fighting, it is too emotional for us,” he told The PUNCH.

He added that watching Joshua fight has always been stressful for the family, especially when he gets knocked down in the ring.

Family Was Informed

Adedamola confirmed that the decision has been shared with the family, saying they support Joshua’s choice to leave the sport while still respected and celebrated.

“Now that he has said he’s leaving while the ovation is highest, we are happy,” he added.

No Official Statement Yet

As of now, Anthony Joshua has not officially announced his retirement, and neither has his promoter, Eddie Hearn, released a formal statement.

This leaves Joshua’s future in boxing uncertain, pending an official confirmation.
