Overview of the Latest FIFA Rankings

FIFA has released its latest Men’s World Rankings for late January 2026, reflecting recent international performances and the impact of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

While several teams maintained their positions at the top, major movements were recorded among African nations, with Morocco and Senegal making historic jumps following impressive continental campaigns.

Global Top of the Rankings Remains Unchanged

Spain continue to sit at the summit of world football, retaining the number one position. Argentina, France and England complete the top four, with no changes recorded among the world’s top seven teams from the previous ranking.

The stability at the top suggests consistency among elite international sides as attention shifts toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations.

Morocco and Senegal Make Historic Progress

Morocco enjoyed one of the biggest gains in the latest update. Despite narrowly missing out on the AFCON title, the Atlas Lions climbed three places to eighth globally — their highest FIFA ranking ever and their first return to the world’s top ten since April 1998.

AFCON champions Senegal also made a strong statement, surging seven places to 12th worldwide. This jump represents a new personal best for the Teranga Lions and reflects their dominant run in the continental tournament.

Their rise caused Belgium, Croatia and Germany to drop one place each.
