16-Year-Old Student Stabbed to Death in Fight Over Boyfriend in Western North
Tragic clash between two teenage girls in Nkwadum leaves one dead, suspect in police custody
A tragic incident that has left residents and netizens deeply shaken has confirmed the death of a 16-year-old Junior High School student at Nkwadum in the Akontombra District of the Western North Region.
The deceased has been identified as Akua Kumah, a JHS 3 student of Nkwadum D/A Junior High School. Reports indicate that she was fatally stabbed in the chest by a 15-year-old JHS 2 female student during a fight allegedly over a boyfriend.
According to information gathered, the incident occurred on Monday while the two teenagers were returning home from school. What reportedly began as a verbal disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
Fight Turned Deadly
During the altercation, the younger student allegedly pulled out a sharp object and stabbed Akua Kumah in the breast, causing severe bleeding.
Confirming the incident, the Assemblyman for the Nkwadum Electoral Area, Isaac Etsie, said he was informed later that evening.

โI was informed on Monday evening that two students were fighting, and during the fisticuffs, the 15-year-old in JHS 2 stabbed the 16-year-old in JHS 3 in the breast,โ he stated.

Victim Pronounced Dead at Hospital
Akua Kumah was rushed to the Sefwi Nsawora Health Centre for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A physician assistant at the facility, Charles Kwabena Amoako, confirmed that the victim suffered a fatal stab wound to the chest, which resulted in excessive blood loss.
Police Begin Investigations
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Sefwi-Wiawso Government Hospital morgue, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted.
Meanwhile, the suspect, identified as Francisca Hayford, is currently in police custody at Sefwi-Akontombra, assisting with investigations. The Ghana Police Service has launched a full probe to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
The tragedy has sparked renewed concern over teenage violence, relationship-related conflicts in schools, and the need for guidance, counselling, and conflict resolution education among young students.
