Mahama Unveils New Hostel Project at Legon
The government has announced plans to construct a 10,000-bed student hostel at the University of Ghana, aimed at addressing the long-standing accommodation challenges on the campus.
President John Dramani Mahama made this known on Tuesday, January 6, during the opening ceremony of the University of Ghana’s 77th Annual New Year School and Conference.
Project Backed by Singapore Agreement
According to President Mahama, the hostel project is based on an agreement signed during his official visit to Singapore.
He explained that the facility will be built using prefabricated construction technology, a method designed to ensure faster completion, efficiency, and quality.
Work Already in Progress
The President disclosed that preparatory works have already begun.
He added that the machinery and factory equipment needed to manufacture the hostel components have been shipped from Singapore and are currently on their way to Accra.
Mahama Speaks
“When I went to Singapore, we signed an agreement for a 10,000-student hostel at the University of Ghana. This will be a prefabricated building, meaning the structure will be manufactured elsewhere and assembled on campus. The machinery and factory equipment have been shipped and are on their way to Accra,” President Mahama said.
