George Ennin: Ghanaian Father Stabbed to Death in Random Bronx Attack

Repeat offender arrested after unprovoked stabbing kills 53-year-old security guard on his way to work

What Happened

A 53-year-old Ghanaian man, George Ennin, has been stabbed to death in a random and unprovoked attack in the Bronx, New York.

The tragic incident happened around 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026, near Third Avenue and East 157th Street in the Melroseโ€“Mott Haven area.

According to police, Ennin was walking to his security guard job when a stranger suddenly attacked him, kicking and stabbing him several times without any provocation.

Victim Tried to Get Help

Surveillance footage from the area shows Ennin trying to walk away after the attack in search of help. Sadly, he collapsed moments later.

Emergency services rushed him to Lincoln Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.

Ennin was a father of two teenage daughters and had just returned to the United States after spending a month in Ghana. It was reportedly his first day back at work.

Suspect Arrested

Police have arrested 38-year-old Sean Jones in connection with the killing. He was picked up by NYPD officers on Tuesday.

Authorities say Jones is a career criminal with nearly 20 prior arrests, mostly linked to robbery, assault, and other violent crimes. He has also previously been reported as an emotionally disturbed person.

Jones has been charged with:

Murder Manslaughter Criminal possession of a weapon

He is currently awaiting arraignment.

Community in Mourning

Residents in the Bronx described George Ennin as a quiet, hardworking, and loving father.

โ€œThis man was one in a million. He raised his two daughters by himself,โ€ a neighbour said.

The killing has sparked renewed concerns about random violence, repeat offenders, and public safety in New York City.

Police investigations are ongoing.
