Tight Semi-Final Ends Goalless After 120 Minutes

The highly anticipated AFCON 2025 semi-final between Nigeria and Morocco lived up to expectations in intensity but not goals, as both sides failed to score after 90 minutes and extra time.

The game, played at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah, was cautious and tactical, with neither team willing to take big risks as the stakes grew higher.

Nigeria Improve After the Break but Lack Cutting Edge

Nigeria showed more ambition in the second half, enjoying greater possession and territorial control. However, the Super Eagles struggled to break down a well-organised Moroccan defence that remained disciplined throughout the match.

Despite scoring 14 goals before the semi-final, Nigeria could not find a way past Morocco, with key attackers Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Akor Adams effectively neutralised.

Morocco Stay Solid as Extra Time Produces No Winner

Morocco enjoyed more of the ball in regulation time but created few clear chances. Extra time followed a similar pattern, with both teams opting for caution and clearly preparing for penalties.

From the 75th minute onward, the match slowed as both sides focused on avoiding mistakes rather than pushing for a winner.

The match was finally decided by penalties, where Morocco won 4–2. Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali briefly raised hopes by saving one spot kick, but Yassine Bounou proved decisive.

The Moroccan goalkeeper saved two Nigerian penalties, becoming the hero of the night and sending the home fans into celebration.

Morocco to Face Senegal in AFCON Final

The victory sends Morocco into the AFCON 2025 final, where the hosts will face Senegal on Sunday, January 18. With home support behind them, Morocco will now look to complete their quest for continental glory.
