History Favors the Hosts

Morocco become the 15th host nation to reach an AFCON final.

Recent history strongly favors hosts:

Tunisia (2004) – Champions Egypt (2006) – Champions Côte d’Ivoire (2023) – Champions

The last host nation to lose an AFCON final was Nigeria in 2000.

What’s at Stake

Morocco could end a 49-year wait for AFCON glory and become the first country since Senegal to hold AFCON and CHAN titles at the same time. Senegal could win a second AFCON title, both under Senegalese coaches, and confirm their dominance over the last decade.

With West Africa and North Africa tied at four wins each in previous AFCON finals, Sunday’s match could tilt the balance.
