Lawyer and media personality backs down after Presbyterian Boys’ SHS condemns remarks as false and offensive
Serwaa Amihere Issues Apology After PRESEC’s Strong Rebuttal
Lawyer and media personality Serwaa Amihere has issued a public apology following strong condemnation from the management of Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, over comments attributed to her describing the school as a “breeding ground for homosexuals.”
The apology comes after PRESEC released a sharply worded statement on January 17, 2026, rejecting the remark and describing it as false, reckless, and deeply offensive. The school said the statement unfairly stigmatized its students and damaged the reputation of one of Ghana’s most respected secondary institutions.
“I apologise to everyone who has felt offended by the comments, especially the PRESEC community and PRESECANS. I assure you that it will not happen again,” Serwaa Amihere said in her response.
PRESEC Defends Its Values and Eight-Decade Legacy
In its official press release, PRESEC stressed that it is a Presbyterian mission school founded more than 80 years ago, guided by strong Christian principles, discipline, and moral values in line with the teachings of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
Management described the allegation as a gross misrepresentation of the school’s identity, adding that PRESEC has consistently focused on academic excellence, leadership, character formation, and moral discipline.

School Warns Against Harmful Labels on Students
PRESEC warned that such comments go beyond public debate and risk exposing students to ridicule, prejudice, and emotional harm, especially in a sensitive national climate.
“PRESEC will not accept or normalise such characterisations,” the statement said, adding that the school will continue to protect the dignity of its students and staff.
Parents, alumni, and the general public were also thanked for their support as the school reaffirmed its commitment to high academic and moral standards.
Controversy Linked to National LGBTQI Debate
The incident comes at a time of heightened public discussion around LGBTQI issues in Ghana, where same-sex sexual activity remains criminalised and public opinion is largely opposed to its promotion, especially within schools and religious institutions.
Recent concerns were raised over an unauthorised teacher training manual alleged to introduce LGBTQI topics into classrooms. Both the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have since distanced themselves from the material, stating clearly that it is not an approved policy or curriculum.
PRESEC said it was important to clearly separate the school from broader ideological debates driven by misinformation.
