Baba Jamal Wins Ayawaso East NDC Parliamentary Primary

Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria secures party ticket after closely contested primary.

Baba Jamal Emerges Victorious

Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, has won the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency.

The primary was held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, to select the party’s candidate for the upcoming parliamentary by-election.

Official Results for the Ayawaso East NDC Parliamentary

Baba Jamal polled 431 votes to secure victory. His closest contender, Hajia Amina Adam, obtained 399 votes, while Mohammed Ramme received 88 votes.

Dr. Yakubu Azindow garnered 45 votes, and Mohammed Najib recorded 1 vote.

The results represent the combined totals from the two designated voting centres.

Campaign Conduct Draws Attention

The tightly contested primary generated significant public interest, particularly over campaign conduct.

During the process, Baba Jamal’s campaign distributed items including 32-inch television sets and boiled eggs to delegates. He maintained that the gestures were acts of goodwill and not intended to influence voting decisions.

Defying Pre-Election Projections

The outcome contradicted earlier projections by Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, who had predicted that Baba Jamal’s support was unlikely to exceed 38%.

Polling data ahead of the vote suggested that Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Ayawaso East MP Mahama Naser Toure, was leading with an estimated 54% support.

Next Step: By-Election

With the primary concluded, Baba Jamal will now lead the NDC into the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election as the party’s official candidate.
