Student Dies in South Legon Road Accident

A tragic incident has been reported near the University of Media, Arts and Communication–Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ), with a third-year top-up journalism student losing his life after allegedly being hit by a vehicle.

The deceased, identified as Nelson Blay Nakotey, reportedly visited the Dzorwulu (South Legon) campus on Saturday, January 17, 2026, to resolve an issue with his student portal. Sources indicate that despite paying a significant portion of his tuition, Nakotey was unable to register for courses, as the system incorrectly indicated outstanding fees.

Circumstances Around the Accident

“He went to the Dzorwulu campus to make enquiries about why he could not register his courses,” a source familiar with the situation said.

The exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear. Reports suggest that Nakotey’s body was identified on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, after relatives had been unable to locate him for several days.

“There was confusion because the family could not find him. It was on Tuesday that they recognized his body and confirmed it was Nelson,” a source added.
