Accra Commercial Court enforces foreign judgment against businessman Nana Kwame Bediako
English Court Judgment Recognized in Ghana
The High Court (Commercial Division) in Accra has formally enforced a judgment from the High Court of England and Wales against Ghanaian businessman Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar.
The court ordered him to pay more than US$14.9 million, along with interest and legal costs, to Cola Holdings Limited, a UK-based company.
Details of the Judgment
The foreign judgment was registered in Ghana on May 20, 2025, following an application by Cola Holdings Limited to have the English court’s decision recognized locally.
The original English ruling was delivered by Deputy Master Sabic KC on January 23, 2025, with subsequent variations in March and April 2025. Once registered in Ghana, the judgment became legally binding and enforceable.

Payment and Interest
The court ordered US$14,928,314.70 as the principal amount. Interest is set at 8% per annum, calculated from January 23, 2025, until full payment. As of December 23, 2025, the accrued interest alone reached US$1,092,834.64.
Legal costs of GH₵15,000 were also awarded to Cola Holdings Limited. Using the Treasury exchange rate of GH₵16.15/USD, the total sum due—including interest and costs—stands at approximately GH₵258.76 million, with interest continuing to accrue.
Service of Judgment
The court approved substituted service, allowing the judgment to be served by:
- Posting copies at Cheddar’s residence, 13 Avenue Lincoln, Osu
- Display on the High Court notice board
- Publication in the Daily Graphic for seven days
This ensures the judgment is formally communicated despite any challenges in direct service.
