NIA Sets New Fees for Ghana Card Services Effective February 2, 2026

NIA announces new charges for registration, renewal and updates

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it will begin charging GH¢200 for Ghana Card replacement at its district offices starting Monday, February 2, 2026.

According to the NIA, the fee review was carried out under the Fees and Charges (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2022 (Act 1080), which mandates public institutions to periodically adjust their charges to reflect economic realities.

The Authority made this known in a press release issued on Monday, January 26, 2026, explaining that the new charges have received Parliamentary approval under the Fees and Charges (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Regulations, 2025 (L.I. 2512), passed in November 2025.

Why the Fees Were Increased

“The NIA has operated under the 2023 fee structure for over two years, during which operating costs have increased cumulatively without corresponding fee adjustments,” the statement explained.

The Authority cited rising costs related to:

  • Technology licensing
  • Cybersecurity services
  • Utilities
  • Logistics
  • Personnel expenses

The NIA added that the Ghana Card has become part of Ghana’s national infrastructure, and sustaining it long-term requires occasional fee reviews after prolonged cost absorption.

The statement was signed by Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, Head of the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the National Identification Authority.
