Tema Power Outage
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a scheduled power interruption in parts of the Tema Metropolis today, Sunday, March 8, 2026.
According to the power distribution company, the temporary outage forms part of ongoing maintenance works aimed at improving the reliability and stability of electricity supply within the area.
The exercise is expected to last four hours, during which engineers will carry out essential infrastructure upgrades.
Affected areas and timing
The planned shutdown will take place between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.
Customers in the following areas are expected to experience the power interruption:
- McKeon
- Sky Quarries
- Westrafo
- Nearby surrounding communities
Residents and businesses within these areas have been advised to prepare for the temporary outage.
Maintenance to improve power reliability
The Electricity Company of Ghana explained that the exercise is part of a broader strategy to strengthen electricity infrastructure in the Tema Metropolis.
According to the company, such maintenance activities are essential to prevent more serious technical faults and ensure long-term network stability.
ECG apologises for inconvenience
The power distributor also acknowledged that temporary service interruptions can disrupt daily activities for both households and businesses.
However, the company stressed that the maintenance is necessary to enhance electricity delivery in the long run.
Residents have therefore been encouraged to make the necessary arrangements during the four-hour outage period.
With the continued industrial and commercial expansion in the Tema Metropolis, ECG says periodic maintenance and system upgrades remain crucial to meeting the city’s growing electricity demand.
