Mamprobi Polyclinic baby theft has drawn swift government attention after a newborn allegedly taken from the health facility was recovered and safely reunited with the mother.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has pledged stronger safeguards in hospitals to prevent similar incidents.
Minister Pledges Stronger Hospital Safeguards
Speaking after visiting the Mamprobi Polyclinic, the Minister said social workers would be deployed to health facilities to enhance monitoring and protection for mothers and infants.
She stressed that the matter would not end with the babyโs recovery but would be followed by sustained interventions to strengthen hospital security systems.
Baby Recovered, Suspect Arrested
The baby was recovered following a rapid operation by the Ghana Police Service, leading to the arrest of a female suspect who is currently in custody.

Investigations are ongoing to determine how the suspect allegedly gained access to the infant at Mamprobi Polyclinic in the Ablekuma South constituency on Tuesday, February 18, 2026.
Minister Thanks Police and Whistleblower
Addressing the media, the Minister expressed relief and gratitude to the police and a whistleblower whose information proved critical to the rescue.
โThis morning, the good news is that we have found the baby. We want to thank the whistleblower and the police for reuniting the baby with the mother,โ she said.
MP Played Coordinating Role
The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, coordinated efforts between the police, community members, and the family, and accompanied officials to ensure the baby was safely returned.
Baby in Stable Condition
Medical staff at the facility examined the infant upon return. Doctors confirmed the baby is stable, receiving treatment, and under close observation as a precaution.
Authorities say further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
