Businessman dismisses social media speculation linking him to alleged drug trafficking case.

Despite NACOC arrest rumours have drawn public attention after popular Ghanaian businessman and media executive Dr Osei Kwame Despite addressed claims linking him to a recent drug trafficking case involving a manager of a packaged food brand.

The controversy began on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, when journalist Saddick Adams, also known as Sports Obama, shared a social media post alleging that the Narcotics Control Commission had arrested a manager of a widely consumed Ghanaian packaged food brand for attempting to smuggle illicit substances out of the country.

According to the post, the Deputy Director of the commission disclosed during an interview on Angel TV that the suspect allegedly concealed illicit substances in food products and was intercepted at the airport before the items could be transported abroad.

The disclosure quickly triggered widespread speculation on social media, with users attempting to identify both the company involved and individuals allegedly connected to the brand.

Due to the description of the brand as one commonly consumed in Ghana, some netizens began mentioning prominent figures in the food business space, including Dr Osei Kwame Despite.

Amid the growing speculation, Dr Despite responded in a video shared on social media on Wednesday, February 12. In the clip, he appeared relaxed and humorous, questioning why he had not been informed about his supposed arrest.

The businessmanโ€™s light-hearted reaction has since gone viral, with many social media users praising his calmness and sense of humour despite the potentially damaging nature of the rumours.

Meanwhile, the Narcotics Control Commission has stated that investigations into the case are ongoing. Authorities have not publicly disclosed the identity of the arrested suspect or the brand involved.

Officials have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information as the legal process continues.
