Kwesi Arthur Accuses Former Label Ground Up Chale of Demanding $150,000 to Use His Own Image

Ghanaian rapper alleges threats, unpaid royalties, and attempts to block his independent music projects

Kwesi Arthur Makes Explosive Allegations Against Former Management

Ghanaian rapper and singer Kwesi Arthur has gone public with serious allegations against his former management company, Ground Up Chale, and its Chief Executive Officer, Glen Boateng.

In a statement shared via his official social media pages on January 21, 2026, the award-winning artiste claimed that the label is demanding US$150,000 from him to use his own images for an upcoming independent project.

Claims of Ownership Over His Image and Music

According to Kwesi Arthur, Ground Up Chale is asserting ownership over his image, music catalogue, and brand dating back to 2016, despite the fact that he says he has had no professional or contractual relationship with the company since the release of his 2022 debut album, Son of Jacob.

He further alleged that during the years he worked under the label, he received no financial benefits or royalties from his music.

Allegations of Threats and Mental Health Impact

Kwesi Arthur claimed he has faced constant threats, manipulation, and deliberate attempts to block his independent music releases.

In a strongly worded statement, the rapper said the ongoing dispute has had a serious effect on his mental health and well-being, adding a caution that has sparked widespread concern online.

โ€œIf anything happens to me or my family, Glen Boateng and all team members of Ground Up Chale should be held responsible,โ€ he stated.

He further warned that if his upcoming independent project is taken down, the former label should be held accountable.

Support From Fellow Artistes and Industry Reactions

The allegations have triggered strong reactions across the Ghanaian music industry. Rapper Medikal publicly voiced support for Kwesi Arthur, urging Ground Up Chale to โ€œleave Kwesi Arthur alone.โ€

Many fans and industry observers have described the situation as a cautionary tale for upcoming artistes, highlighting issues such as poorly negotiated contracts, lack of legal advice, and power imbalances between artistes and management.

Ground Up Chale Yet to Respond

As of the time of reporting, Ground Up Chale and Glen Boateng have not issued an official response to the allegations.

The dispute appears to stem from long-standing contractual and rights issues following Kwesi Arthurโ€™s departure from the label, and it remains unclear whether the matter will escalate into legal action.
