KNUST Student Dies After Falling From 2nd Floor of Hostel

Second-year Agribusiness student died after falling from an off-campus hostel in Kumasi.

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has confirmed the death of one of its students following a tragic incident at an off-campus hostel in Kumasi.

Victim Identified

In a statement issued on Monday, February 9, 2026, university management identified the deceased as Ransford Amankwah Asomani, a second-year Bachelor of Science Agribusiness Management student.

What Happened

According to preliminary information, Mr Asomani fell from the second floor of an off-campus hostel at Ayeduase in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026.

He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital by colleagues, with assistance from the KNUST District Police Patrol Team, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Family Notified, Autopsy Pending

The university confirmed that the family of the deceased has been formally notified. His body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

University Expresses Condolences

KNUST management expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a grievous loss, and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends and the entire university community.

Police Investigation Ongoing

Meanwhile, the KNUST Police, in collaboration with the universityโ€™s security services, have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fall.

The university assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress, reaffirming its commitment to the safety, security and well-being of students and staff.

The statement was signed by the University Relations Officer, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe.
