Aba Dope Claims She Started Snapchat “Settings” Trend
Influencer says fake lifestyle videos began with her in 2015
Social media influencer and entrepreneur Aba Martin, popularly known as Aba Dope, has claimed she was the first person to start the trend of “settings” and fake live videos on Snapchat in Ghana.
Speaking in an interview on TV3, Aba Dope said she began experimenting with staged lifestyle content as far back as 2015, while she was still a nursing student, at a time when Snapchat dominated social media.
“Snapchat Was the Boss Back Then”
Recounting her journey, Aba Dope explained that her online identity was built almost entirely on Snapchat before other platforms gained popularity.
“How I began as Aba Dope? I started on Snapchat. At that time, Snapchat was the boss. When I was in nursing school around 2015, I downloaded Snapchat and we were just posting all the time. I started ‘settings’ on Snapchat,” she said.
Staging Luxury to Impress Followers
The influencer admitted that she often staged a luxurious lifestyle to attract attention and grow her following.
“I could go and sit in somebody’s car, put my hand on the steering wheel like I was driving, but I was never caught,” she revealed.
According to her, those early stunts helped shape what has now become a widespread culture of fake lifestyles online, where people exaggerate wealth, success, and experiences to gain attention and social media clout.
“Fake Life” Culture on Social Media
Aba Dope noted that what started as harmless experimentation has evolved into a major trend among young people, especially on Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram.
She said many individuals now feel pressured to present a perfect life online, even when it does not reflect their real situation.
Aba Dope Opens Up About Liposuction
During the interview, Aba Dope also spoke openly about undergoing liposuction surgery, revealing that she travelled to Nigeria for the procedure.
She dismissed negative views surrounding cosmetic surgery, including Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), saying such procedures are often misunderstood.
“BBL is not as negative as people make it out to be. Cosmetic surgery has been around for a long time. It’s mostly about removing unwanted fat and shaping your body the way you want,” she explained.
Her comments have sparked renewed discussions online about authenticity, body enhancement, and the pressure to appear perfect on social media.
