GTEC closes Royal Nursing College following an inspection that uncovered serious regulatory breaches at the institution located in Tafo.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Council ordered the immediate closure of Royal Nursing College after a monitoring visit conducted on February 19.

Inspection Uncovers Accreditation Violations

According to GTEC, the decision was taken in the interest of protecting students after the school failed to produce valid documentation confirming accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

The Council further disclosed that Royal Nursing College ignored a directive issued in June 2024 that explicitly barred the institution from admitting new students until regulatory issues were resolved.

Over 800 Students Affected

As a result of the closure, more than 800 students are currently stranded, with many expressing distress and uncertainty about their academic future.

GTEC stated that allowing the institution to continue operations without proper accreditation would have posed long-term risks to students’ qualifications and professional prospects.

GTEC Reaffirms Commitment to Student Protection

The Council emphasized that the action aligns with its mandate to ensure quality assurance and compliance within Ghana’s tertiary education sector.

It also urged prospective students and parents to verify the accreditation status of institutions before enrollment to avoid similar situations.
