Overview

American rapper Wiz Khalifa has reportedly been sentenced to nine months in prison in Romania following a marijuana possession case connected to his 2024 visit to the country.

According to Romanian media outlet Cancan, the Constanța Court of Appeal delivered the ruling on Thursday, December 18, after prosecutors appealed an earlier decision that only fined the rapper.

What Led to the Case

The case dates back to July 2024, when Wiz Khalifa performed at the Beach, Please! Festival in Costinești. During the show, he was allegedly seen smoking marijuana on stage.

Romanian police briefly detained him after the performance and reportedly found more than 18 grams of marijuana in his possession. Romania has strict drug laws, and even small amounts meant for personal use can attract serious punishment.

From Fine to Prison Sentence

At first, Wiz Khalifa was fined 3,000 lei (about $700) and released without spending time in custody. However, prosecutors argued the punishment was too light and appealed the ruling.

The appeal court agreed and replaced the fine with a nine-month prison sentence.

Appeal Filed

According to TMZ, Wiz Khalifa’s legal team has already filed an appeal against the prison sentence. As of now, the rapper and his representatives have not made any public statement on the matter.
