A headmistress in Kumasi has come under public scrutiny after allegedly forcing her students to swear at a traditional shrine over missing school funds.

Incident Linked to Missing Capitation Grant

According to Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG), the money—GH¢1,000—was part of a capitation grant kept in the headmistress’ office at Mount Sinai Methodist JHS in Dompoase.

Students Taken to Deity Without Police Involvement

Instead of reporting the matter to the police, the headmistress allegedly took the students to a local deity, where they were made to swear that they would die with their relatives if they had stolen the money.

Parents Report Case to Education Authorities

Parents who later learned of the incident confirmed reporting the matter to the Asokwa Municipal Education Office. However, they say no action has yet been taken.

Calls for Methodist Church and GES to Act

The parents are calling on the Ghana Education Service and the Methodist Church to investigate the matter and sanction the headmistress if found culpable.
