Missing Konongo Toddler Found Safe

A three (3) -year-old girl who went missing from Konongo Roman Catholic Basic School has been found alive after several days of intensive search efforts.

The child, identified in social media reports as Joycelyn Yamoah, was safely recovered at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region and reunited with her family at the Konongo Police Station, sparking scenes of relief and jubilation.

How the Child Went Missing

Joycelyn was reported missing on Thursday, January 22, 2026, after she failed to return home from school. Early reports circulating online indicated that the toddler was allegedly picked up from school by an unidentified woman.

Following her disappearance, family members and concerned residents launched a public appeal on social media, sharing her details widely in a bid to locate her.

Public Concerns and Reactions

The incident has triggered public criticism, with some questioning the school’s child safety measures and how an unknown person was allegedly allowed to take the child from the premises.

The case has also reignited broader discussions around school security protocols and child protection, with calls for stricter verification procedures during pupil pick-ups.

Police Investigation Ongoing

As of the time of reporting, the Ghana Police Service has not released full details on how the child was found or whether any suspect has been arrested in connection with the case.

Police say investigations are ongoing and an official statement is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and recovery.

Renewed Focus on Child Safety

Joycelyn’s recovery has renewed conversations around child safety and emergency response systems. Ghana recently introduced initiatives such as AMBER Alert Ghana, designed to help rapidly disseminate information about missing children, although it remains unclear whether the system was activated in this case.

Residents expressed gratitude and relief following the child’s safe return, with emotional scenes recorded at the police station as the family reunited after days of uncertainty.
