The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, August 23, 2025, the Council confirmed that following investigations into irregularities detected during the examination and marking of scripts, several candidates have had their results cancelled or withheld.
Examination Malpractice Decisions
At the 36th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the BECE, held on Friday, August 15, 2025, the following sanctions were approved:
- Cancellation of subject results of 718 candidates.
 - Cancellation of entire results of 177 candidates.
 - Withholding of subject results of 1,240 candidates.
 - Withholding of entire results of 93 candidates.
 
Additionally, subject results from 119 schools have been cancelled, while candidates from 87 schools had their subject results withheld for further scrutiny. WAEC noted that withheld results may either be released or cancelled after investigations are concluded by September 6, 2025.
Statistics of the 2025 BECE
A total of 603,328 candidates (297,250 males and 306,078 females) from 20,395 schools registered for the 2025 BECE. This included candidates with special needs: 72 with visual impairment, 239 with hearing impairment, and 161 requiring other forms of test accommodation.
The exams were held at 2,237 centres nationwide, with 2,526 candidates absent.
Accessing Results
WAEC announced that schools will receive results through their Metropolitan/Municipal/District Education Directors. Candidates can also check their results online via the Council’s official portal: https://eresults.waecgh.org/
Those whose results were cancelled or withheld can verify their status by visiting https://eresults.waecgh.org/ and clicking the “withheld/cancelled” button, which provides details of the irregularity and next steps. Heads of schools may also access this portal using their results listing login.

Caution Against Fraud
WAEC cautioned candidates and parents against falling victim to fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee. The Council emphasized that results are secured and tamper-proof.
Conclusion
The Council extended its appreciation to all stakeholders — including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, and examiners — for ensuring the successful conduct of the 2025 BECE and release of results.
