Just last month, the Royal Akua Korang Akwamu Abrade Family of Asamankese, in the Lower West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region, appealed to President John Dramani Mahama, the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and the Inspector-General of Police to help resolve the long-standing chieftaincy dispute in the area.
The family warned that the situation where two parallel chiefs claim authority in Asamankese was creating insecurity, driving away investors, and slowing development efforts.
Call for Enforcement
Speaking at a press briefing held at the family’s ancestral home, Akwamu Fie in Asamankese-Beposo, Osabarima Kentinka Pobi Asomaning, who insists he is the rightful chief, expressed frustration over the lack of enforcement of rulings that favor him.
He said that although he had secured judgments from:
- The Eastern Regional House of Chiefs Judicial Committee
 - The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council Judicial Committee
 - The High Court in Koforidua

none of these decisions have been enforced.

Deadly Clash
Unfortunately, the tension took a tragic turn last evening when a heated argument between supporters of the two rival chiefs escalated, leading to gunshots. Two people were killed instantly in the incident.
Residents are calling on the government and security agencies to step in urgently before the situation worsens.
